If you loved the movie "The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel", you will fall head-over-heels in love with this book! I have had a love affair with Italy forever and after exploring Tuscany I can absolutely guarantee the intelligence of why four women from different cultures, living alone, and hoping for an exciting and warm climate for retirement would pick Tuscany. We meet Cecilia, Paula Jean, Carmela, and Janet over cups of cappuccinos at Cafe' Toscana. They love the food and poppy fields of Tuscany and soon discover they all have a penchant for pearls. If you are a woman over 50, you have to discover the backgrounds of the women who have bonded totally with each other. This is a rich book filled with the hope, loss, anger, and joy that create a story that lives up to the synopsis: "just when you think you know what's next, a completely unexpected twist in the story will keep you turning the pages way past your bedtime."...I started reading the book about 8PM, thinking I would read a few chapters and go to bed. I completed the book at approximately 3AM. You cannot walk away from the enchanting journey each of the women have taken to get to that table at the Cafe' Toscana. Enter the newer members of the club, Bronwyn and Eleanor and the story line drags you so deep into the emotions that you can't put the book down. This is the retirement we all dream of with women we can all connect to. If they allowed more stars, they would be checked! For the male readers out there...you also need to read this so you have an idea what your mother's may be up to! You will be delighted you traveled to Tuscany, if only for a few hours and believe me...You WILL want to go back!Tags : Amazon.com: Pasta, Poppy Fields and Pearls eBook: Sophia Bar-Lev: Kindle Store, ebook,Sophia Bar-Lev,Pasta, Poppy Fields and Pearls,CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform,FICTION Contemporary Women
Pasta Poppy Fields and Pearls eBook Sophia BarLev Reviews
Book Description
"When four women from various parts of the world form an unlikely but deeply rewarding friendship while enjoying their retirement years in the Tuscan countryside, anything can happen --- and it does!
Their experiences, like yours, create a fascinating tale of dreams lived and lost, then found again - or new dreams that emerge from deeply buried secrets. Their life is your life - in ways you may least expect it. "
The cover of this book alone will pique your interest.
A generous bowl of pasta.
A gorgeous red poppy field in a beautiful blue sky.
A fantastically rustic, random and narrow cobble stoned pathway.
The three will lure you into a rich story that will grab hold of you all while consuming you completely in one sitting. You simply won't stop reading. It's that good.
Four contrasting women with distinct nationalities, diverse up bringings, backgrounds and varied life experiences. Widows who are bound together through bonds and friendships made all while living as expats in Florence, Italy.
Friendships shared with good food, beautiful, blissful scenery and the carefree and relaxing way of life in Florence will delight you with each page. Characters stories shift back and forth from present day to their past struggles and realities giving the reader a deeper understanding of each's life.
Equal parts chick lit, historical fiction and mystery, you come to care about all of their life experiences and personalities. As you learn more and more, you can suddenly visualize yourself at the corner café sharing a cappuccino or espresso with them and taking part in their conversations. I can easily see this story portrayed into a movie or mini series. Once you've finished reading, you'll eagerly be anticipating it's sequel - PIZZA & PROMISES!
Can't wait to read the sequel.
Fun read! I am moving to Tuscany!
Cheers to girlfriend bonding.
Enjoyed the individual stories of each of these wise women.
Wonderful!!! With each story told, I felt the women were my new friends and I wanted to be in their unique lives.
Can hardly wait for continuing story.....
Your Best! I just finished a restful Shabbat afternoon reading your new novel. I was intrigued throughout and can't wait for the sequel. I see a movie on the horizon. Threads of 'real life' seemed to run throughout the characters and their lives. They say 'write what you know' and I saw much of you. Mazal Tov! The book reminded me of the easy and captivating reads of Debbie MacComber.
Best book I've read in ages! From the opening pages, my heart was intertwined in the lives of the characters. Their stories are true to life and I wanted to meet them, in Florence, at their favorite cafe. Their lives teach principles of faith, devotion, honesty, and fun; four down-to-earth women who are not afraid to deal with real life "messiness" but do so with grace and humor. (Not only will you want to go to Florence but you will desperately long for meaningful and true friendships!) It was very hard to say goodbye to them at the end I felt I had just lost my best friends. Way to go, Sophia! Thank you for a truly inspirational and thought-provoking read that teaches deep things about life. I can't wait to read the sequel it will be like a homecoming!
I found Pasta, Poppy Fields and Pearls so fascinating, I wanted to read all night in order to enjoy the women’s next adventure. This is a book that will appeal primarily to women who can put themselves into the story and tag along as invisible companions to the four main characters to participate in their escapades, marvel at their deep friendship and watch how each of them grows in different ways over the book’s time frame.
The chapters are short and cover one event each, in detail. There’s mystery in the story as well as twists and turns causing the reader to speculate where it’s going next, including some unexpected new friendships that form and possibly relatives who might appear by the end of the book.
I highly recommend Pasta, Poppy Fields and Pearls as a light, exciting summer read.
